Happy April, friends! We’ll have to disagree with ol’ T. S. Eliot, because we don’t think this month is cruel at all, as evidenced by Austin’s bluebonnets, patio sitting, and the awesome events ABC has coming up. Join us on Tuesday, April 8th at 8 p.m. at Home Slice Pizza for our monthly Story Department, where talented storytellers riff off a given theme to entertain audiences as they enjoy wine, beer, excellent company, and delicious food brought over from More Home Slice (just next door!).
In the spirit of springtime, this month’s theme is “First Time.” Come hear Chris Dammert, Elizabeth Doss, Sarah Perry, Carol Ramsey, and Stacey Abel tell hilarious, heartbreaking, and shocking tales about their new beginnings and experiences!
Entry is sliding-scale style–pay from $10-$30, depending on what your budget allows, but know that all proceeds from the evening support our free writing programs for kids ages 6-18. Basically, this is a way to get inspired by our storytellers, befriend other artsy Austinites, and give the gift of creativity to the next generation. It’s a win-win-win!
If you haven’t been to a Story Department event before, check out our Facebook page to see photos from March’s SXSW edition. The theme was music-inspired: Maurice Chammah of Mother Falcon emcee’d, while Kliph Scurlock of the Flaming Lips, Thor Harris of the Swans, and Kelly Pratt of Arcade Fire all took the storytelling spotlight.
All in all, you’ll be in good company with us down on SoCo. Hope to see you there!
P.S. Can’t make it this month? We’ll see you on May 13 for a “Mommy and Me” themed Story Department.
Same place. Same time. Same mission.
