Tonight, meet up with us for our monthly Story Department at Home Slice on South Congress, where we’ll hear Chris Dammert, Elizabeth Doss, Sarah Perry, Carol Ramsey, and Stacey Abel tell stories riffing off the spring-appropriate theme “First Time.”
But the fun doesn’t stop there! Thursday, we’re showcasing Austin’s talent during our first annual city-wide talent show extravaganza. Entry is FREE, and for every bite you eat of Smokey Denmark‘s and sip of drink you take from your Shiner, you’ll be supporting Austin Bat Cave’s free writing programs for children ages 6-18.
The talent show is also a launch party for the student-written Austin travel guide Meant to Be Here, featuring nonfiction and poetry produced in workshops offered by ABC in collaboration with Bunkhouse Group. The anthology will be available for $10. Several students will be reading their work and giving autographs — catch them now, before their careers take off!
Some lucky show-goers will leave not only with wonderful memories, but also with super-cool wins from our silent auction! With items provided by Maya Star, Allen’s Boots, Junot Diaz, BookPeople, Travaasa, Eastside Yoga, Alamo Drafthouse, Hotel San Jose, and many more, we’re sure there’s something in the mix that you’ll want to bid on.
Come on out, enjoy the spring weather (bring your own allergy medicine!), and help us celebrate the creativity and vitality of our fair city. RSVP here for the Show Up Show Off Show Show — and invite your friends!
