We here at Austin Bat Cave are very excited to announce that Katie Angermeier Haab has been named our new Executive Director. Katie has been with ABC since 2008, when she volunteered for one of ABC’s summer camps. She was hired as Volunteer Coordinator, moved into the Development Director position, and became Interim Executive Director nine months ago. Since Katie joined ABC’s staff, she has helped to expand our programs by a whopping 600%.
Katie is a graduate of the University of Kansas and relocated to the Austin area to earn her MFA in fiction from Texas State University. She served as writer-in-residence at the Katherine Anne Porter Literary Center for three years post-graduation, where she ran the Visiting Writers Series for Texas State University.
Here are some thoughts from Katie herself:
Social change, celebration of community, and stories have always lit fires beneath me. To bring these together in one position feels serendipitous. In the next few years with Austin Bat Cave, with the help of our brilliant Program Director and dedicated board, I plan to serve ABC’s many programs and honor the voices of Austin’s youth by growing our services, focusing on quality, and strengthening ABC’s already amazing foundation.
We can’t exactly welcome someone who’s been with us for the last seven years, but we sure are glad you’re here!
