I’m thrilled to be joining the Austin Bat Cave team as the Events + Development Associate, y’all.
Originally from Washington, DC, I moved to Austin in 2011 — the hottest summer on record. I discovered a thriving literary scene and the magic that is an ice-cold topo chico, and decided to sweat it out here for awhile. And I’m so glad I did. Since moving here, I’ve had the privilege of learning and telling the stories of some incredible Austinites as a contributing writer for places like CultureMap, Austin Way and Texas Highways, and most recently as the assistant and digital editor of TRIBEZA magazine.
As a writer and voracious reader, I’m a big believer in the power of words. Storytelling has been a huge force in my life from a young age, and I’m feeling extremely lucky and excited to be in a position to help other kids discover the power of it.
I started during a pretty cool week here at Austin Bat Cave: Last week, our 2015-2016 anthology came out (and it’s beautiful, you guys) and I got to celebrate with students at Sims Elementary and Blackshear Elementary. Watching them gleefully flip to their own published work in print felt, well, kind of amazing. I can’t wait to get started giving that moment to many, many more kids.
In the next few years, with the support of ABC’s amazing Executive Director and Program Director and incredible board, I plan to continue to build on Austin Bat Cave’s impressive base by helping generate more awareness and funds, and elevate our already successful events to the next level.
