School Partnerships

ABC values the relationships we have with Austin-area schools, and we’re always enthusiastic about forging relationships with new schools. We also offer programs in youth correctional facilities and crisis centers. ABC tailors programs to fit the needs of the school or facility; we have many regular (weekly/biweekly) workshops, but we also often send in volunteer instructors to help supplement the curriculum for a short-term project.

If you are a teacher or administrator and are interested in having ABC writing or tutoring programs at your school, please contact Program Director Ali Haider at ali@austinbatcave.org.

In-School Workshops

Austin Bat Cave tailors its in-school programs to fit the classroom, whether that means offering support and differentiation for existing projects, or creating new curriculum to enhance language arts programs. We aim to make students more confident in their writing skills as we show them just how much fun writing can be. Each year, we create an anthology or project (comic book, fairytale, dream diary, album) that compiles writing from the school year so each student walks away a published author.

This year, we have worked with Hillcrest Elementary, Palm Elementary, Blackshear Elementary, Paredes Middle School, Martin Middle School, the Magellan International School, Del Valle High School, Anderson High School (AVID), Breakthrough Austin, East Austin Prep, Austin Achieve Public Schools, and more.

After School Tutoring

Our after-school tutoring program is currently on hold as we search for a new location in East Austin. This new location will allow us to better connect students with tutors in a creative and dynamic workspace. Please check back soon for more information.

Publishing

Every year, Austin Bat Cave puts out an anthology of student writing. We believe that when students see their work in print, they take pride in having become published authors, and they have concrete evidence of their accomplishments as writers. This year’s anthology is titled Young Love and features writing by kids ages 6–18 on every kind of love, from love of family, friends, romantic interests, and oneself to love of bacon!

Austin Bat Cave is grateful to our friends who allow us to continue producing our anthology:
