Programs Intern Job Description

 

Austin Bat Cave (ABC) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that provides children and teenagers (ages 6-18) with opportunities to develop their creative and expository writing skills. We connect a diverse population of young writers and learners with a vibrant community of adult volunteers in Austin. All of our programs are free.

 

ABC seeks a Programs Intern for the 2015 Fall Semester.

 

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Work directly with the Executive Director and Program Director to facilitate ABC’s programs
  • Attend ABC workshops as your class schedule allows
  • Observe operation of programs
  • Solicit and collect in-kind donations from local businesses
  • Manage the existing log of in-kind donations
  • Manage materials collected for the anthology (includes transcribing and importing documents)
  • Represent ABC when the Program Director cannot be present at workshops
  • Work with volunteers as needed to facilitate programs
  • Reach out to parents/guardians when necessary
  • Collect and log evaluative information as needed
  • Attend all ABC events, including monthly evening Story Department fundraisers and publicity events
  • Write program updates for the ABC blog and newsletter; occasionally conducting interviews

 

Requirements:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Highly organized
  • Attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Google programs (Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive)
  • Knowledge of and passion for ABC’s mission and programs
  • Must have a reasonably flexible schedule and be able to take on tasks as they come up
  • Does not need personal transportation, but it definitely helps!
  • Must be able to commit 15 hours per week (Must include some present working hours at workshops and some remote hours that fit your schedule)
  • Pass a background check
  • Enjoy working with kids of all ages and backgrounds

 

Pending university approval, a student can earn academic credit for their work with ABC

Special Events Internship Description

Description: Under the direction of the President of the Board and Executive Director, the intern will assist in the execution of fundraising events,

General responsibilities may include (but are not limited to):

  • Work directly with the Executive Director, Program Director, and Board of Directors
  • Solicit and collect in-kind donations from local businesses
  • Manage the existing log of in-kind donations
  • Work with volunteers as needed
  • Attend and work all ABC events, including monthly evening Story Department fundraisers and publicity events
  • Assisting with the planning and coordination of events
  • Assisting in communications around the event
  • Assisting with onsite event management (event steward) and set-up
  • Assisting with finding and contacting sponsors

Intern will gain and/or improve upon his or her:

  • Communication skills
  • Understanding of inner workings of non-profit organization
  • Logistical support
  • Experience in gaining sponsor support and community outreach
  • Event execution
  • Understanding of special events and fundraising

 

Qualifications:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently

  • Proficiency in Google programs (Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive)
  • Knowledge of and passion for ABC’s mission and programs
  • Must have a reasonably flexible schedule and be able to take on tasks as they come up

  • Must be able to commit 15 hours per week
  • Outgoing personality with strong interpersonal, verbal (including phone work) and written communication skills
  • Comfortable with Excel and Google Docs
  • Interest in the Arts and nonprofit Sector
  • Interest in Fundraising
  • Self-starter

 

Compensation: College credit encouraged and available upon school approval.

Time: This is a part-time internship (15 hours per week on average); the hours and time commitment are flexible to be set between the supervisor and the internship candidate prior to the start of the internship.
