Spring-ing into the New Year
On Wednesday night, Austin Bat Cave had the opportunity to meet eager writers, teachers, and creative individuals all over the city for our spring volunteer orientation. Huddled in warm coats and still recovering from the snow day, we shared exciting ideas over tons of Home Slice Pizza! Musings of creating scientifically-accurate comic books, workshops for the KLRU-TV writing contest, and lessons on book-to-screen adaptations were passed around the room as we welcomed the group, new and old, into the ABC family!
In addition to learning the ins-and-outs of working with Austin Bat Cave, our attendees heard from long-time volunteers and ABC friends, Kathy Zarate, Avani Chhaya and Holly Ratcliff about their experience working with kids in the community and putting on programs with us. Finally, our group broke into small teams, dissected mock lesson plans, and worked together to brainstorm ideas for programs, ultimately finishing by creating a lesson plan of their own!
We want to sincerely thank everyone that was able to attend — we would not be able to do what we do without the time and creativity of our volunteers! We look forward to an incredible spring semester!
