Meet Haylie! Our Summer Programs Manager

Hiya, ABC!

I’m Haylie, the new Summer Program Manager for Austin Bat Cave. I started volunteering last year, and I’m thrilled to start working with the ABC team.
I recently finished a PhD in English at George Washington University in DC, but I’ve been living in Austin for about two years. When I’m not meeting with volunteers or helping out at summer camps, I’m usually swimming at Barton Springs, writing at the new downtown Central Library, or losing staring contests with my cat, Creature.
I’ve spent over a decade teaching students in a ton of different contexts, including zoos, aquariums, colleges, and after school programs. I’m a passionate believer that creativity, language, and self expression belong to everyone, and I’m so excited to join an organization that is working to empower kids to take control of their own narratives. Best of all, I get to work with all of you! ABC has the best volunteers around, and I can’t wait to get to know all of you. Please say hi when you see me, and don’t hesitate to reach out anytime if there’s anything I can do to help you. See you around soon!
