What Happens Inside: A Body Horror Workshop

Leticia Urieta

Open Genre | Online
Thursday, 6:30—8:30pm
October 12

$35.00 – $55.00

Clear

The fees from ABC’s adult writing workshops subsidize our free writing programs for kids, whose work is collected in a yearly anthology, and pay our adult workshop instructors. limited number of seats in each class are reserved for scholarships, which cover 100% of tuition-fees and are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. All are welcome, and we especially encourage BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ writers to apply.

When it comes to our bodies, there is little we fear more than the inevitability that our bodies will change, can fall ill and will die. Body horror helps us to write about the absurdity, beauty and horror of being corporeal. This one day virtual workshop will focus on reading and discussing stories of body horror that affect us and engage with stories of illness, trauma, loss, power, monstrousness and reclamation. We will also discuss how these stories can inspire our own. This generative workshop will provide space for us to engage with multiple writing activities that make space to write and share our own body horror stories.

This workshop will take place on Zoom (captions will be provided) and is open to writers of all experience levels and interests in horror writing who are over 18 years of age.

This Austin Bat Cave adult writing class is limited to 15 students and is open to writers of all levels.
