In this seminar, students will explore the role and the power behind magical objects in our favorite fabulist stories and discover how they enrich plot and character. Participants will read examples from George Saunders, Carmen Maria Machado, Aimee Bender, Helen Oyeyemi, and Gabriel García Márquez. The goal of the class is to receive a better idea of fabulist fiction, to brainstorm several object and story ideas, and to leave the class with a stronger work in progress and/or the definite beginning of one story.
