STORYTELLING
Storytelling is one of the oldest forms of self-expression. We all have beautiful and complicated stories to tell, and writing can be a powerful way to share them!
In ABC’s Intergenerational Storytelling program, teens and older adults use journaling, oral storytelling, letter writing, and visual art to build understanding, empathy, and meaningful connections between generations. At our weekly workshops, participants gather in restorative circles and write about the people, places, and experiences that have shaped their lives. Teens and elders then exchange stories through Pen Pal letters and work toward creating a collaborative chapbook of their writing.
At the end of the semester, youth and elders gather for an in-person restorative circle to celebrate their correspondence and the relationships they’ve built! ABC also hosts Intergenerational Mobile Library visits with free book giveaways for participating youth and older adults.
