Writing Gifts: Poetry Presented by Naomi Shihab Nye and Austin Bat Cave

Austin Bat Cave is pleased to present Writing Gifts, a collection born out of our one-night master class with Naomi Shihab Nye. With Naomi’s guidance, students dove into their vast treasure houses of experience and memory to create gifts—poems and paragraphs inspired by, written for, or crafted in honor of someone else. Under the warm glow of twinkle lights hung in our East Austin classroom, Naomi impressed upon students how often discoveries and joys rise out of the practice and process of writing, reminding us how writing itself just might be our best gift.
